“Seattle Central was pivotal in opening my eyes to bigger conversations about the world,” Gyasi said. “I was a pretty mediocre student before, but my instructors helped me realize I was smart. They helped me put my ideas into language that up until that point I didn’t have.”Kermit Walker, the assistant track and field coach at Southwestern Oregon Community College, is a repeat American Masters Outdoor Track & Field champion. Battling lung cancer, Kermit has completed thirty rounds of radiation and five chemotherapy treatments. When asked how long he plans to compete, the 81-year-old replies “as long as I can breathe.”
